Vision
The longevity achieved in the last century with advances in science and the increase in life expectancy alerts us to the urgency of changing the discourse and the image that has been built about maturity and aging. The prejudice against age present in our culture and society contrasts with the possibilities of an active life in contemporary times, with meaning, wisdom and happiness.
Maturitas was born as a social business that integrates the ecosystem to combat ageism, with the mission of contributing to positively re-signify the narrative about the second half of the life cycle, revealing its potential and aiming at the well-being of people and society .
Our ambition is to awaken new perspectives that can bring good living to maturity, whose enthusiasm suffers from the abuse of a decadent and obsolete narrative, identifying key elements of transformation of the discourse on maturity and aging, changing the lenses with which we see, in order to create a new culture that attributes more value and meaning to middle age and old age.
Maturitas invites companies, media and brands as well as researchers, development organisations, members of the private sector and civil society, academic and research institutions to join this movement. We can reflect together on how these concepts can unfold into actions and outline effective strategies to be implemented.
We need a collective project, where everyone, in their sphere, assumes their role in the transformation. We need an activist position in relation to this cause, which belongs to all of us.
Values
We believe that the transformation of the narrative will take place if we detach ourselves from existing concepts and center the discourse on something new, with a positive value. We need a “from-to” that contributes to building this new place, a good place for the maturity of resignified values, with a focus on meaning, happiness and well-being.
And how do we do it? Ah, the humanities...
The humanities allow us to read the world and phenomena in a critical way and then build a new discourse, a new imaginary and new practices.
We need a new lens to emancipate us from this view that no longer serves. We need to denaturalize this hegemonic view of who told the story so far, this collective construction of several generations that produced a culture about this cycle of life that we do not identify with today because it does not represent older people in contemporary society.
We need to build a society for all ages, where everyone has a place in the world, a role in the social fabric, can live experiences of meaning and belonging, and prosper.
Narrative
Our mission is to change the narrative about maturity and longevity, to increase awareness about the benefits of this phase of life, so that the Maturites can take ownership and build a life that is fuller of meaning. Expand views and perspectives and create a sense of belonging - a community that recognizes itself in this proposal and in this space, being 30, 40, 50 or 80 years old. An empathetic coexistence that unites for purpose, where everyone has something to learn and teach. Awaken autonomy and awareness to choose and plan their own future, to be happier and active subjects, protagonists in the formation of a healthier society.
